These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.  Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. ~Deuteronomy 6:6-7

Family Ministry

We know that if we are to live our biblical mandate in Deuteronomy 6 we need to be in this together. fcobfamilies is our intentional move to build a strong partnership between FCOB and families who worship and share life with us. fcobfamilies is designed to equip families to become the primary place where spiritual formation can happen, where families can experience faith at home.

Why is family ministry important?

40-50 hours per year. That is the total amount of time your student is likely to spend in church per year. Now, think about how many hours you spend with your child. It is hard to even compare! No wonder when studies look at who the biggest influencers in a child's life are, the results are always clear: their parents!

This might come as a surprise, but it is true! Is it likely that a youth pastor or children's director will make an impact on your student? Yes. Does that mean that the one or two hours a week they are in church is enough to foster their spiritual development? Absolutely not. If we want the students and children in our church to grow up to become spiritual champions, parents need to reclaim their God-given right and responsibility as their child's primary spiritual teacher and mentor.

Sadly, there are times when the church in America has fostered the attitude that parents should drop off their kids at church and "leave the spiritual training to the professionals." We want to equip you to do exactly what Deuteronomy 6 says. We know the conversations you as parents have with your kids around the dinner table, before bed, and in the car have great influence in their lives. Our goal is to begin to find new ways to equip you to have those conversations with your children. It's time to reclaim your role in your child's life! We just want to help you along the way.

The family ministry team is always working to create spaces that allow you to foster family connections or equip you in your role as a parent.  Check out the newest events!
